Alchemy Thank You and Notes
Just wanted to take the opportunity to once again thank those who helped me along with writing this story or were involved along the way:
moonliteknight, for a fast and unapologetic beta from an author she'd never worked with before. Without her this story would been riddled with confusing paranthetical statements, run on sentences and leaps in logic that were, in fact, illogical.
quantum_witch, for listening to me bitch, not just about this but about a million other things, too.
stormseye, my amazing artist, who contributed far more than I was ever expecting. I may or may not have let out an undignified squeal when I opened her email containing the art.
Admittedly, this story was not the one I originally intended to write for this particular Big Bang. My first concept--a 2014 verse AU of that AU--was about 4k words in, and growing rapidly more complex and detailed--so detailed I realized that 4k was just the prologue. (!) There was simply no way for me to finish it within the time constraints of the challenge, so I set that story aside and decided I would do something light and fluffy, perhaps as a Mini Bang instead of the full-fledged BB. I've liked the superhero AUs that I've read in this fandom so far, but never really considered writing one myself until I stumbled across this prompt on
spn_cues. I was fiddling with it around the same time as my failed original story, and thought 'why not make that my BB?'
The result was Alchemy. I'm positive I failed on the "fluffy" part, and certainly on the "mini", but it is what is it. I alternate between hating it and genuinely enjoying other parts (insomuch as I can enjoy something I myself have written--I'm not exactly my own biggest fan).
I'll save you all from the research I did for this story and leave it as I did more than I ever expected. I like to kid myself into thinking that the true study of alchemy is touched on here in the same way science or physics is in typical superhero comics and movies--barely, but in enough doses to make it somewhat recognizable to the 'real' thing.
So thanks for visiting this post, and thanks for giving the story a chance. Any thoughts or concrit, drop me a comment (anon if you want). I'd love to hear what you think.
